Smart Regions

The "Digital villages in Saxony" project develops and tests digital applications for rural areas in the "Lommatzscher Pflege" LEADER* region. The population, municipal representatives and scientists from the Fraunhofer Institutes for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) and for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI) jointly prepare specific practical proposals on how to implement these digital applications in workshops.

The benefits of digitisation have already become tangible in the region: the "DorfFunk" (village radio) and "DorfNews" (village news) digital communication services have gone live and are currently being tested by the local population. Further digital services will be developed and tested depending on the demand.
