5G research network in Lusatia
Digital structural change
The goal of this project is to set up and operate a 5G model region across federal state borders to investigate and test 5G technologies and 5G applications for tele-operated, automated and cooperative building, driving and flying in Lusatia.
This project is implemented in the Hoyerswerda region of the federal state of Saxony and in the Welzow region of the federal state of Brandenburg. The result will be a 5G application park operated as a showcase that will act as a motivator and driver for swift progress in structural change in Lusatia, both in economic and social terms.
The project will thus bring new know-how and offers to the region. Conservative industries in particular, such as construction industry, automotive industry and aviation, are faced with great changes on account of digitisation. This is why these three industries have been selected to establish a nucleus in Lusatia where these sectors can carry out fundamental studies on the basis of a 5G infrastructure and the latest research results from the fields of industrial cloud and communication technology.
Further information is available from 5G Lab Germany Research Area Lausitz.
The project is being supported by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
